From our reporters: May 12 earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan has caused RMB 192 million Yuan damage in rural water supply facilities in Shaanxi Province and water supply for 1585,800 people is affected. Now relevant cities and counties in our province is taking powerful measures to recover normal water supply and dispose dangerous water supply facilities while actively making for post-disaster reconstruction.
According to statistics, the earthquake has damaged water supply facilities in capital of 41 counties in Shaanxi Province by May 23: Pipe (channel) damages and breaks in 138 spots, water pond cracks in 52 spots and cracks in walls of pump buildings in 13 spots. This has caused loss in water supply facilities in capital of counties amounting to RMB 24.987 million Yuan, affecting water supply for 345000 people. 1427 water supply facilities in rural areas in Shaanxi Province have been damaged: 761 water towers cracked, 35 water towers collapsed, 141 well buildings tilted, 163 wells became useless,486 water ponds cracked or leaked and 47 water ponds become useless. 209 water sources were affected: 642.09 km water pipes were damaged with direct economic loss amounting to RMB 167 million Yuan. This affected water supply for 1.2408 million rural populations.
Led by local Party Committees and governments and directed and supported by superior leaders, for days water supply agencies in these counties have been actively repairing water pipes and other water supply facilities. They have arranged water supply to pipelines directly from pumps and organized local villagers to fetch water from nearby water supply facilities, making emergency water supply available and recovered. To guarantee safety of people or buildings near water towers which are severely damaged, alarm areas are set for water towers which have cracked or tilted. These water towers are discharged as soon as possible. Meanwhile, relevant departments are actively arranging and organizing people to make plans for post-disaster reconstruction, striving to complete reconstruction by the end of July this year. |
